Description:
The term kala is an Old Common word meaning "apple," one of the few words for specific plants or food items in that language and hence an unusual native Common word in this area.
'Kala' forms a minimal pair with 'kalla', 'war', distinguished only by gemination of the 'l'.
It usually refers to the fruit but can refer to the tree or the wood. Kala is generally not used as a verb, other than in a trivial sense as a pali verb meaning to be an apple.
The modifier form 'kalas' means apple-scented or apple-flavoured.
