'Futpol' is the same game if football we still play in Britain. It was borrowed from international vocabulary very early in the language's history, displacing the North American name for the sport, 'soccer'.

The spelling variant 'futbol' with the non-standard B was dominant up to the early modern period. The AXZ has spent years encouraging the 'futpol' variant, and it has mostly taken over, but 'futbol' is still seen.

This term is usually used as a noun. It refers to the game, or to the ball. In a verbal context, it is an intransitive pali verb with a sense like 'play football'.
