Common Lexeme

mury

Keywords: human body

Pronunciation (IPA): 'mu.rÉ™
Part of Speech: term noun
Class:
Forms: mury
Glosses: hair, human hair, grow hair

Description:

A human hair. Note that Common does not tend to use mass nouns, and that mury refers to a single hair. To talk about a head of hair, use the plural, naz mury. The idiom is similar to French, les cheveux.

The fur of a non-human animal usually uses a different word, hawfil. However, some non-human animals who are considered close to humans in some way may get mury, and long hairs that resemble human hair, like horsehairs, would use mury.

Mury is not used as a verb, except in the expression 'se mury', a slangy term meaning to reach puberty or to grow stubble. As a verb, it is a pali verb and takes se as its auxiliary.
