Description:

The term 'Myrika' refers to a number of things to do with the American continents. It derives from the name of the old United States of America (or USA, which in turn is referenced as 'naz atenkas Sifysyn na Myrika' or 'na ASM' in discussion about history, when the English is not simply used). 'America' was often used to refer to the specific country and not to the continents, at least within the USA itself.

'Myrika' comes from a reduction of 'America' to sound like 'Murica' amoung less educated speakers of English. It was picked up in this form by Common speakers, possibly as mockery, in the Commonised form 'Myrika'. In the absolutive case this would be written 'a Myrika', which is close to the original name, and may also explain the shortening in a non-pejorative way.

Myrika can have the following meanings:

  1. Na Myrika is a NWO state in North America.
  2. Naz Myrika means 'the Americas', likely as a calque of the expression from English, and refers to the entire continental mass of North and South America and associated islands.
  3. Na hare Myrika and na sela Myrika are North and South America, again probably as a calque from English.

This terminology creates some confusion that Common scholars sometimes bemoan, the the terms seem to have stuck permanently.

State of na Myrika:

The state of na Myrika occupies the southeast corner of the old United States, east of Texas and south of Virginia, but excluding Florida. It is the direct descendent of the USA as a New World Order state. It is the sixth most populous full state in North America, behind na Mehiko and ahead only of na Epekwit, and it is the poorest.

Na Myrika has one of the most diverse elite populations in the world, since much of its original elite was deported to Africa and replaced with weatlhy Africans and Asians in a series of purges, as it did not take well to New World Order rule. The Common dialect of na Myrika's elites is widely admired for its purity and correctness.

The lower classes, however, are less diversified because this region has been very hard hit by climate change, and has been a net exporter of people. English is probably at its strongest in na Myrika than anywhere else in North America, but English education is essentially non-existent, and British travellers have reported that they had a lot of trouble understanding and being understood here.

While the New World Order generally does not confiscate weapons, they did confiscate the local population's weapons, as gun possession was a famous fixation in this region, and gun confiscation was intended to break the population's spirit. There has been some deliberate effort to expell some of the local population and replace them with populations from abroad, but this has been hampered by the general undesirability of the territory. Na Myrika hence has some of the most fraught class and racial tensions in the world.

Effective government control of some parts of the state is tenuous at best, especially along the hurricane-ravaged Gulf coast. The state has a high rate of crime and political insurgency.
