Pronunciation (IPA): 'kub.ru
Part of Speech: term noun
Class:
Forms: kupru, kuprus
Glosses: copper, red (coppery), orange

Description:

The term 'kupru' refers to the element of 'copper'. It was coined during the early modern period during the period of deliberate growth in Common's technical vocabulary. It is formed in a similar manner to other such terms, taking what was deemed a highly recognisable and technical form of the word, removing inflectional endings, and Commonising what was left. It was intended for technical contexts, but it eventually displaced an earlier, native word 'fazawn' that is no longer used in Common but appears in some old texts.

The modifier form 'kuprus' is used to mean 'red' in contexts where a coppery or brownish colour is meant, such as rust or red hair, or for orange.
