enyci

Keywords: energy

Pronunciation (IPA): 'e.nə.d͡ʒi
Part of Speech: term noun verb
Class: skurun
Forms: enyci, enycis, enycikas
Glosses: energy, energetic, energised, power, powerful

Description:

The term 'enyci' was borrowed from the English 'energy' sometime in the late early period as 'enyrci'. The heavy syllable in the middle of the word does not fit the pattern of Common three-syllable roots, and so there was a tendecy for the r to be dropped in speech, which eventually crept into writing. The variant without the r was codified as the official Common scientific word for the concept or energy during the early modern period coining fo scientific terms.

'Enyci' is closely related to the Old Common word 'lik' in regular speech, the later technically relating specifically to electricity, but in colloquial speech, they can be used interchangeably.

Noun:

As a noun, 'enyci' means energy or power. This can be metaphorical power, such as having the personal energy to get things done, but not in the sense of social power. It is used as a technical, scientific term for the concept of energy.

Verb:

As a verb, 'enyci' is a transitive skurun verb that takes an ergative energy source and an absolutive thing energised. The antipassive pali form can be used to mean 'having energy' when applied to an erergy souce, or being actively energised if applied to a recipient of power, although the latter case tends to imply having a self-contained source of energy.

Modifier:

The modifier form 'enycis' means energetic, having enrgy. The similar form 'enycikas' means receiving energy, being energised. There is a lot of overlap in these forms.
