Description:
The determiner se is the verbal auxiliary used for intransitive verbs. Intransitive verbs have a single gramaticalized syntactic argument, a subject noun phrase in the absolutive case which can generally be understood as the experiencer of the verb. Any other arguments must be expressed periphrastically. Such verbs can undergo causitive and benefactive valence change operations. Se very broadly has a sense like 'stand', from its paradigm verb 'pali'. The Common copular/existential verb 'an' is an intransitive verb that takes se as its auxiliary.
